Fordyces Condition is a common skin disorder which is characterized by tiny yellow dots. It mostly occurring in groups and sometimes it is found on the lips, inside mouth, and rarely on the genital skin. They are sometimes confused with basal cell carcinoma. It generally does not interfere in love making as they are painless. The spots are a form of ectopic sebaceous gland, and are not known to be associated with any illness and are of cosmetic concern only. They are non-infectious and a totally natural occurrence on the body. They are present in 80-95% of adults. They are probably present at birth but become bigger and more visible from about puberty onwards. They may occur as a solitary lesion or more frequently in crops of about 50-100.
Causes of Fordyce’s Condition
The cause of this illness is unknown. These problems tend to run in families; in another word we can say that it is a generic reason. A decrease in circulating androgen results in a change in the rate sebocytes migrate from their points of differentiation into the sebaceous unit may be a cause. It is not caused by viruses and is not contagious. The papules are present at birth but only become prevalent when the child reaches puberty.
Fordyce Disorder Symptoms
Fordyce Condition is a variant of Sebaceous Hyperplasia. The sign of fordyce Disease is characterized by dry, darkened patches of skin in the underarm, pubic, and nipple areas of the body, with raised patches of dried out blisters. It is also found that tiny yellow dots are found in groups and also sometimes in the sheets on the lips, inside the mouth, and sometimes it is also found in the genital skin. The disease can cause loss or breakage of hair follicles in these areas. The disorder almost solely affects women after puberty and around the time of menstruation.
What are the Treatment options for Fordyce’s Condition
Since Fordyce’s Condition is harmless and appears in most adults, there is no reason to panic. The treatment is necessary when they are ugly and cause real embarrassment. It should not interfere with lovemaking because they are painless. Young boys sometimes panic and think they have done something wrong, but a visit to the doctor sets them at ease. If the lesions are becoming unsightly and you really feel something needs to be done, a powerful, expensive drug named Accutane will reverse sebaceous hyperplasia, but you will develop new lesions after you stop the medication unless you also use tretinoin cream regularly.
