Xerosis

Dry skin is also called xerosis and is a common problem. Xerosis affects any part of the skin, though the more proned areas are the face, hands, feet, legs (shins), abdomen (along the sides), genitals, and arm-pits. The skin need moisture to stay smooth and supple, and regaining moisture is mostly difficult in winter. As the name implies, dry skin occurs as a result of a lack of moisture. The skin loses moisture in a number of ways.

Causes of Xerosis

Xerosis can be caused by many factors, including:

  • Use of harsh soaps can worsen and cause xerosis.
  • Cold winter weather decays xerosis as the amount of moisture in cold air is much lower than the amount of moisture in warm air.
  • Using nonmoisturizing soap.
  • Showering or bathing more than once a day.
  • Bathing for long periods of time.

Symptoms of Xerosis

The Symptoms of Xerosis is :

  • Itching
  • Redness
  • Flaking and fine lines
  • Ulcers infections
  • Skin feels rough
  • Cracks in the skin
  • Ulcers infections

Treatment of Xerosis

  • Keep the skin lubricated.
  • Do not use soap; you will get clean by drenching in the oil-water conjunction. Not to take more than one bath or shower a day.
  • Use lukewarm water, not hot. Hot water drenches out the skin.
